Book excerpt: What makes this book different than any other "divorce and remarriage" book is that this book focuses on the origins of the Jewish marriage. How can one understand what God teaches about divorce unless they first understand the meaning of the covenant in Scripture? With the imput of Dr. David Instone-Brewer, I have taken an in-depth approach to marriage and divorce through the eyes of Genesis. I have compared the unilateral approach of marriage and divorce in the law of Moses, against the bilateral approach of the Gentiles under their 1-century Graeco-Roman laws. Only by understanding the legal arguements and the controversy surrounding 1 Corinthians 7 can a believer in today's age, understand the freedom and guidance of Scripture in this area. It's a deep, theological book written in an easy to read format. Most books similar to this seem to be too long and weighty for the reader (hurting people really don't have the time or the heart to dig for answers). People just want answers that are straight forward and makes sense. They are willing to wait on getting married, but only if it is absolutely necessary. They are looking for an answer to their unique situation that offers Biblical proof and is full of common sense. There is no other book like this! This is not a feel good or a pat on the back (there-there) book, but one that talks straight from the Bible in a logical way from marriage-to-remarriage. Hurting people want answers now, and they want it fast. They are looking for permission from God to get out of their awful marriage, fulfill their God given sexual needs, and find that one-and-only true love. After all, the divorce rate has been climbing every year to prove it! Most Christians are not looking to talk to those in the Church who say you can "never divorce" or "do not separate what God joined together". These people are usually too extreme, aggressive, and condemning to speak with. They are looking for guidance, understanding, and forgiveness from a God who loves.
